I have just made a list of the cameras I have used (owned / borrowed / acquired) since I started with photography at the age of 14. They range from the exotic to the iconic to the rather dull and mostly useless. Not in the same order they include a Minox Subminature, Leica M6, Diana (the original from Woolworths and the current expensive copy), Mamiya 6006, ten different Nikons, Olympus SP, Ricoh GRD and my favourite a Contax 139 which finally gave up life after being dragged extensively around Asia and North Africa. if digital had not come along I would probably be using a Nikon FM3a with a bunch of prime lenses.
In total I have used 49 different cameras (not including smartphones). There was some purpose to this. I know that its the photographer that makes the picture and buying a new camera does not make you a better photographer. But changing your camera type can enable / force a different way of working / seeing, and helps to make you develop new approaches. The same subject should be photographed / printed differently if you a make a conscious choice to use a Diana compared to putting a Rollie medium format on a tripod.
Number 49 is the Fuji x100. Thinking about what number 50 might be; I have a big project in mind and it needs to be the tool for the job.
